"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed..." Isaiah 1:17a
The way George Floyd died is unacceptable. This man's life was devalued, treated like property, treated like his life simply did not matter, watching his life dwindle right before us all, so reckless and wicked. God please help us, defend the oppressed. Protect my sons, my friends and family, help our country God to see the value of life.

The institution of black lives not counting goes way back to the founding documents. Though I don't like to believe it, it just seems some people still think this way. 3 out of every 5 black lives mattered... The Three-Fifths Compromise is found in Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution, which reads:
"Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons."

A contentious issue at the 1787 Constitutional Convention was whether slaves would be counted as part of the population in determining representation of the states in the Congress or would instead be considered property and, as such, not be considered for purposes of representation.

Events like this make me feel like our lives just don't matter. We are not seen as whole, I know my black brothers and sisters matter to me, my uncles and aunts matter to me, my sons and daughter lives matter to me, my grandkids lives matter. We are human beings.  When will society treat all human beings as human beings, born in the image of our God?
Having said that I know my value comes not by the color of my skin but by the content of my character.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

Ultimately my value comes from Christ. He died for us, therefore I am extremely valuable, your life is valuable, he gave up his life so that we would have the power to repent of wickedness and sin. Lord, help us be moved by your love.
